Initiated by the Shalupe Foundation in 2010, the African Festival of Boston is the largest gathering of its kind in the New England region of the United States. Featuring a vast array of African musical acts, renowned and emerging, the festival seeks to re-establish the continent as a moving force not only in the New England community but also in the world.
AnnieSoul, who kicked off Kinanda Fest 7 in Nairobi last July will showcase the characteristic sound that has waded its way onto the Kenyan soul scene within the last several years. The singer/songwriter/producer, who has shared the stage with the likes of Elani and Sauti Sol and whose first album Mwanamuziki was released in 2009, will be unveiling new music alongside a diversity of artists, from Acoustic Cape Verdian musician Ary Morais to a Guinean all-female Djembe and dance troupe.
The annual festival, which is in its third year running, attracts thousands within the diaspora and is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 14th at City Hall Plaza from 9am to 8pm.
