SHUGA TAKES ON A DIFFERENT TONE WITH EPISODE 5

There have been increasingly vocal concerns as the first four episodes of Shuga: Love Sex and Money aired, that the series does not reach out to the less oppulent in society. Fans of Shuga followed the lives of mostly upmarket Nairobi youth with lavish lifestyles and exclusive social circles.

With the likes of Leo, Kennedy, Femi, Rayban and Dala attending a premiere University in the city as well as hanging out at the posh DNA club, there are worries that a majority of Kenyans have been left out, as this is all a representation of only a small fraction of the targeted populace.

Nonetheless there are also views that in the entertainment industry, no one is interested in seeing or writing about poverty, but to give the viewers something to admire and aspire to.

Whatever the case, MTV just released the promotional video to the latest episode, the fifth in the series and the second last to be aired. From the release, it is evident that the tone of Shuga has taken on a new perspective, covering the lives of more 'ordinary' Kenyans, Angelo and Kipepeo, who are born and bred in the ghetto part of the city.

Have a look at the promo video below and tell us what you think...
