They Have Built Some Of The Best Music Bands In Kenya, But Beyond Their Famous Bands They Are Little Known Or Recognised (Case: ELANI)- Part 2
Continued from: Part 1
Part 1 of this piece looked into Sauti Sol who are arguably the best music band Kenya has ever produced to the outside world. They are well known, far and wide, and have had glittering careers of their own as a band.
However, we lamented that Kenyans have never taken their time to know the individual members of this famous band. Savara, Chimano, Baraza and Otieno, as individuals, matter little to their loyal followers.
While some may argue that it does not make sense knowing individual members of these bands, Ghafla Kenya wonders why this should be so considering that these are guys who have entertained us, given us what we want and are still promising us more.
Everybody has their own views on the same though, but here is the truth behind everything: knowing these individual members of the bands is prudent. At least some day they will plunge themselves into something bigger as individuals and this will greatly work in their favour and subsequently on your favour.
Today we take a look at ELANI, another musical group that is sending jitters down the spines of many artistes. Their rise to fame has been gradual but steady, thanks to their sweet music that has catapulted them to the international scene.

For those who know little about Elani or know nothing about them, I will simply let you know that it is a group comprising of three members, one handsome man, namesake Bryan Chweya, and two very fantagorgeous ladies, Moureen Kunga and Wambui Ngugi.
The group comprises of learned people. I mean people who have gone to class and studied books. Chweya is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Wambui has studied Actuarial Science and Moureen has a degree in Law. This is a gel between beauty and brains. They have beauty and brains, handsomeness and brains. That is something a bit hard to come by. But to them, it is a blessing.
However, one disgusting thing is that beyond here, beyond ELANI and their music, the three are little known or recognized by their fans. By Kenyans. And even if they do, they don’t give much attention to them as individuals.

Bryan Chweya
My namesake Chweya is on facebook and twitter. He is an ardent user of the social media. A check on his twitter account showed that he has a following of only 2832. This for a celebrity of Chweya’s status is pathetic. In his facebook account, he is a bit active but the likes, comments and shares on his updates show exactly what Kenyans think of him.
The last update he made on facebook received 1 comment and 45 likes. That is all. His second last received 11 likes and one comment. That is absolutely all.
Moureen, the beautifully talented songbird is also on both facebook and twitter. However, she seems to be a bit inactive on facebook because the last time she was there is like three months ago. On her twitter account, she has some following. A paltry 6091 following. That, for a female celebrity, is miserable.

Moureen Kunga
Finally, Wambui, the ever smiling and beautiful member of the group is active on facebook but her posts and the comments that follow them tell it all. They clearly show that a few Kenyans really know these singers on individual levels.
On twitter, she has a following of 5994, less than Moureen’s. Well, one may argue that that does not add food on their tables, but believe it or leave, it, to a great deal, it affects their career. One thing that drives musicians and almost everybody is the fact that you are appreciated and your work is recognized by many, both as a group and as an individual.

Wambui Ngugi
The spirit of Kenyans knowing these bands without knowing the individuals who make up these bands is pathetic to say the least.
Appreciating these individuals is one of the things that will encourage them to work even harder and better to give us what we want, how and when we want it.
Those who think that it is not necessary to know these musicians individually should reconsider their stand and try to establish what these guys are or have gone through to reach the level they are now.
