Hip Hop is Dead: A Kenyan Exhibition
Just as Chiwawa accuses the Kisima Awards for making the wrong call in their Hip Hop Category at the recent ceremony, an exhibition about the genre’s extinction is currently taking place at the National Museum.
Starting on 3rd November, Hip Hop is dead, an art installation by Oliver Okoth takes a musical journey inspired by musical sounds and lyrics. It shows the contrast between old hip hop which was mainly used as a tool for activism vis a vis modern hip hop which is now rife with misogyny and consumerism.
The Hip Hop is Dead installation is showing at the National Museum’s Creative Gallery until the end of November. Museum rates apply.
