Ghafla gets a one-on-one with the latest music sensation, JAY A

So, as usual, we got the lovely opportunity to interview yet another bubbling and fast rising star. The rapper, popularly known as JAY A, brought us tracks like ‘on me’ in which he did with the beautiful Amina, and is currently getting massive airplay.

Our guest interviewer, Winnie Kiziah did the honors and this is how the interview went down.

WINNIE: What do you do when you ain’t doing music?
JAY: Mmhh, am in school, Graffins college taking BBIT, so I spend more time in school. But on my free
times, I spend time with friends and family.

WINNIE: Okay… where did the stage name Jay A come from?
JAY: from my real names JUMA ALI…

WINNIE: Are you a Muslim?
JAY: Yeah, my family is muslim.

WINNIE: As an artiste, what’s the best part of your work?
JAY: I would say composing the music.

WINNIE: Do you write your own tracks? And would you write a piece for someone else?
JAY: Yeah, I write my own music. But I wouldn’t write for someone else.

WINNIE: Why wouldn’t you write for someone else, almost everybody does that?
JAY: I don’t believe in giving people my work. I mean why should I write lyrics and give it out? Just
doesn’t make sense to me.

WINNIE: What if they asked you to help them do so? You still wouldn’t, even for an upcoming artiste
who’s just stuck there?
JAY: Okay, what I can do is help out if you are stuck. But I can’t write for you. That’s like just wasting
my lines.

WINNIE: Wow! So would you do music written by someone else?
JAY: Nope, never!

WINNIE: As a child, who was your favorite musician and what song?
JAY: E-SIR!!! Moss Moss was my best track then, by him.

WINNIE: Okay…why moss moss of all his hit songs?
JAY: I don’t know, I just like the song!

WINNIE: In the local music industry, who would you do a collabo with and why?
JAY: I’d like to work with Octopizzo and Stella! I can actually say I’ve kinda done it already, because we
featured in the Stella Stella Stella Remix with Octo.

WINNIE: Why would you want to work with Octopizzo?
JAY: Coz he is good at what he does.

WINNIE: Define good.
JAY: good at writing his lyrics, the flow, and all.

WINNIE: Having said that, would you do music written by him?
JAY: Okay, no offence, but as earlier said, I can’t do music written by someone else. We can work
together and put something together though.

WINNIE: Who is your second favorite local artiste, after Octo?
JAY: Ahh… (took some time to figure that out,huh) Juacali!

WINNIE: What’s your favorite song by Juacali?
JAY: ..uuhhmmm.. (again) Si Siri, the new one he’s just done. ( I have no idea what that song sounds
like).

WINNIE: Okay! Female artiste? And why?
JAY: Extatic! Reason’s just the same thing…content in her music, it’s all about the content.

WINNIE: Would you wanna work with her some time?
JAY: Yeah, if given a chance, why not?
