Impressive: How this guy shot a video in prison, I don’t know
Before I even introducing this inspiring rapper, I’m just bursting to let you know that this is the first ever Kenyan to release music and actually shoot a video in prison. Hell yeah! That doesn’t happen in Kenyan, but this guy somehow became an exception.
He goes by the name, Lil Veen and he was arrested back in January 2011 after being caught in possession of fake notes which we are all familiar with as ‘wash wash’. He was later charged and prisoned for two years, during which his inspiration for music grew unbelievably massively. The irony in all these is that he was going to use that money in paying for his first music video.
Lil Veen then got to shoot his first video in prison. I’m still wondering how he managed to convince the Warden to do this. He changed his life and through this song ‘mjela’, you can hear and feel the struggles he has been through as a prisoner and as a normal individual paying his dues.
I met him once after he was released and I have to say that this guy has a musical drive that very few established artistes posses. I just can’t wait to see his new works after his new found freedom.
