South African Star Moved to Tears by Kenyan Singers
Award-winning South African singer, Zahara, was moved to tears after watching a YouTube video of a Kenyan music student performing the cover of her song, Ndiza. The clip by Sauti Academy’s Pauline was uploaded online on Monday.
Every term, students at Sauti Academy, an artist development program under Penya Africa, participate in a YouTube competition that allows them to sing acoustic own compositions or covers. The competition for the new artists delving into the industry is a test of their ability to express their musicality in a few minutes and still be able to draw fans online.
Zahara is South Africa’s hottest rising star having sold 200,000 copies of her debut album on the first month of release alone. She then went on to sweep numerous awards at the 18th South African Music Awards (SAMA) in May including Female Artist, Newcomer, Best Selling album, Best Smooth Urban Music Album and Best Collaboration.
