The Ma3 Band Heading to International Music Festival

Kenyan Afro-pop band, Ma3, will be heading to Rwanda between the 7th and 8th July for the Kigali Up International Music Festival. The event will take place at Kimuhurura Park in Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali. The festival features over 30 musicians from East Africa, France and Canada.

This year’s festival highlights include Senegal’s Ismael Lo, South Africa’s Tumi & the Volume, Zimbabwe’s Chiwaniso and Burundi’s Kidum. Ma3 will be the only artistes representing Kenya at the event.

The six-member Ma3 band has previously performed at Sauti Za Busara Festival in Zanzibar, Kinanda Arts Festival, Blankets & Wine and All That Jazz in Nairobi. They have also played Tusker All Stars last year and the second season of the Patricia Show.

Ma3 is fronted by Julia, Kato on the electric guitar, Karimi on the acoustic guitar and Tim Rimbui plays the keyboard. Others are Alan Wanjohi on bass guitar and Muraya on drums. The group is currently promoting their debut album, Beba Beba. They have a live DVD and more singles from the records expected to come out this year.

The two stages at Kigali Up will be used to celebrate deep and diverse musical traditions and modern music that has developed from those roots. For updates, follow the #Ma3KigaliUp hashtag and the Ma3 Facebook and Google+
