P-Unit Reveal How They Came Up With ‘Gentleman’

Over a brief one on one with P-Unit, here’s what they had to say about the hit song that got them nominated for Teeniez Hottest Collabo in this year’s CHAT Awards:

On the inspiration behind collaborating with Sauti Sol:

“P-Unit ni wale wale. The ladies out there inspired the song ‘Gentleman.’ During a show in Eldoret we shared a stage with Sauti Sol and felt the need to do a gentleman’s video for the beautiful ladies. To try and bring back that good old romance and etiquette that the current generation seems to be missing out on. Blame it on social media or digital relationships, you simply can’t pull a seat for a lady online.”

On blending genge and afro fusion:

“Well, that came naturally. P-Unit and Sauti Sol are both very experienced groups and it flowed. A good collabo is never forced, it happens.”

On the challenges of recording the song:

“We knew what we wanted. The idea had been conceived long before and R-Kay nailed it on the track. We admit there were a few delays because of both groups having busy schedules, but work had to be done and the song was delivered as planned.”
