The Earth Is Dying. Can This Talented Pianist Save It?

Nyokabi is a relatively unknown artist in the Kenyan music scene. She plays the piano from the comfort of her home, records it and silently uploads the videos to YouTube. This week, her latest video for her piece called ‘Earth Song’ is one of the most liked videos on YouTube Kenya. Could this be her big break?

A unique thing about these piano ensembles by Nyokabi(which you can see in the window below) is that she has subtitles running as she plays her piano. This serves to push the message behind the song through, as keyboard notes are probably not enough in most cases.

Also, I noticed that she purposely records the video from behind a light source, which obscures the viewers view of her face. Perhaps she does not want the spotlight that so many celebrities crave?

Regarding the song, it is a flawlessly executed piece which is a rarity in the Kenyan music scene. Perhaps we will see her decking the halls of the Alliance Francaise soon? Who knows…
