It seems no one is safe in this republic. This is what comes to everyone’s mind the moment they hear what happened to National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi.

A week ago, the speaker received a letter on his desk laced with some powdery substance and when it was taken to the government chemist for scrutiny, it was discovered that the powdery substance was rat poison Zinc Phosphate, reports the Star.

The letter is believed to come from Nyeri because it had a newspaper cutting demanding payment of Nyeri teachers’ retirement benefits.

This development happened while the speaker was in Germany on official duty.

The national assembly was greatly shocked at this and some MPs went ahead to wonder why the speaker was being targeted yet it is the MPs who make most decisions.

CID have already taken up the matter and launched investigations into the same. Teachers from Nyeri have since denied involvement in the same.
