Veteran Journalist Killed By Thugs

It is so disgusting that on the week when the world is celebrating press freedom a veteran Kenyan journalist’s remains lie in an Eldoret morgue after he was attacked and killed by unknown boda boda riders as he walked to his home in Eldoret town.

John Kituyi, the owner and writer of the regional Mirror Weekly was attacked by the assailants at around 7.30 pm on Thursday, hit with blunt objects before they fled on their motorbikes.

The journalist died on arrival at the Eldoret hospital where he had been rushed for treatment.

The 63 year old worked as a correspondent for the Standard newspaper in the 80s before launching his own daily.

His death has been linked with a number of issues among them the ICC cases which he has talked so much about in his paper, a local newspaper reported early today.

The murder of Kituyi has sparked outrage among scribes, with many demanding a speedy investigations to bring the assailants to book.
