Shuga, the TV Show Which Made Lupita Nyong’o Famous Is Back
Shuga first aired in November 2009 on MTV Base as part of an initiative dubbed “MTV Staying Alive Ignite!” Lupita Nyong’o, Anto Neo Soul, Sharon M and Nick Mutuma were part of the stellar cast picked for season one of the series.
Season 1 explored the life of Ayira (Lupita Nyong’o) a lady with a lust for the finer things in life that leads her in precarious situations. Leo, a young man in love with a HIV Positive girl, Vio a girl who enjoys a hedonistic lifestyle that leads to her contracting and spreading HIV Aids.

The series was such a success that it bagged a Gold award in May 2010 at the World Media Festival in Hamburg,Germany in the Public Relations Health category for its dramatic and hardnosed focus on sexual behavior among the youth.
Season 2 also played on the same theme as season one focusing on focus on love, cheating and sexual behavior among the youth. It also included a member of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community (LGBT).
Season 3 moved to Nigeria and now fans of Shuga will be glad to know that the series will be back come July 2015.
