A list of nominees for presidential awards has been released. The various categories that individuals will be honoured in include the Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH), Chief of the Burning Spear (CBS), Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS), Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS), The Distinguished Service Medal (DSM), Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW), Distinguished Grand Warrior (DGW), The Silver Star of Kenya (SS), the Head of States Commendation (HSC) and other awards.
Among those in the list of nominees are people in government including spouses of the President and his deputy, cabinet secretaries and renowned individuals who have served and are serving in the Jubilee government.
This has prompted activist Boniface Mwangi to feel that for such an award to be given to people, they must be very close to the top echelons of power in the country and fork out some cash from their pockets to be awarded with the honours.

Mwangi revealed this in his twitter account where he lamented that the country is full of corruption and that only people get rewarded because they are close to the president and also because they can bribe those responsible to get the awards.

Ghafla Kenya’s Tonny Ngung’u ran a story of how he came across Gospel singer Betty Bayo’s story of partying in club Tribeka, less than a month after she was caught up in a dangerous scandal that involved her husband, rogue preacher Pastor Dr. Victor Kanyari and which almost tore down her career as a musician.
Betty ran from one media house to another, cleansing her name from the saga. From Kimathi Street to Kijabe street, Mombasa Road to Dennis Pritt Road, Betty Bayo tried making her name holy despite her consistent refusal that she was not trying to detach herself from the scandal that had befallen her family.
She could dodge pertinent and direct questions like did you know all these activities by your husband, do you stay together, why is that you attend a different church and not that of your husband, and many more questions.
All she clung to was that God had called her to serve him diligently and with dedication. Indeed, serving sis the word. Diligently. In Club Tribeka.
When Tonny called Bayo to ask her about the allegations that she was partying in a club, the dodgy singer again changed the tune and said she was launching her new song. In a club? Yes, because this is where most artistes launch their music. Really Betty? Yes, Tonny.
This is where we start thinking, ‘Betty is another Kanyari’. For the time she has been married to the rogue preacher, she has been a very good student of his antics.
Kenya has had great artistes, I mean great artistes who have built and left great legacies even after they are gone. I can name so many of them. I am very good when it comes to gospel music. This is because of the craving I have for the music. Angela Chibalonza is a household name. Seven years since her demise, Betty and company are yet to reach her levels.
There is Rufftone and his brother Daddy Owen. There are Sarah K and many more. The list is endless. Oh there is Gloria Muliro. A very humble and talented gospel artist in the country. These are people who have made it without necessarily launching their albums in clubs.
Betty Bayo and company are here now, partying in clubs in the name of launching their music. Since when did a gospel artist attend parties in clubs? How now? Why?
Betty will consistently remind you that she has been called by God to spread the gospel. That is a lie. Or if it is true, then it is her husband, Kanyari’s god. Not the one God we know. Not the supreme God. That is a lie.
In fact after convincing us that she was innocent after that expose, she has gone ahead to prove to us that she was a liar. She is a liar. She a small Kanyari. After all birds of the same feather will always flock together. Or rather you simply need to show me your friends and I will tell you who you are. This is what Betty is trying to run away from.
Photos of the gospel singer emerged. She was hanging out with fashionist Fundi Frank. Close range. Haha! With a smile. And of course her butt enjoying the serenity it was getting from whomever was behind her. She was feeling yolo. I guess she had a ‘hallelujah’ coming out of her lips.
Well, you may argue that Betty is a grown up, she can choose what to do, how and where, when. That is very true. But I am standing for the gospel music. That is so ungodly. Unholy. Sinful to be precise. Betty is that proverbial hyena that wanted everything. Took both parts and kept moving. It kaput.
Mzazi Willy M Tuva is arguably the most talented, well known and respected radio presenter of our time. He nurtures talent. He helps musicians launch their music. That we can’t dispute. But he not only works at Club Tribeka. He has a show on Radio Citizen. Betty should have launched he song there. Not club Tribeka.
If you look at the artists Betty was with at the club, you will realize that they are guys who in one way or the other have had problems with their fans. Among them were Willy Paul and L J Maasai. These are controversial gospel singers.
Thing is Betty is pulling a Kalonzo or a Zuma on us. I simply mean she is a watermelon. Green outside but red inside. She is a Kanyari in disguise; masquerading as being holy but actions largely betraying her.
Unless she can convince us enough, we will also believe that Betty and her accomplices are just but the many people using the name of God to put something in their tables.
Gospel music should remain gospel, it should be done at the right place, time and manner. So is secular music.
