Controversial MP Calls For Media-Parliament Dialogue Following Public Outcry Over The New Media Bill

The controversial media bill has caused quite the backlash not only from the media but from the public as well. It was seen as a move to muzzle one of the most important arms of the government the ‘fourth estate’ also ‘referred’ to as the watch dog.

The National assembly is definitely feeling the heat with even majority leader Aden Duale calling for addressing of the concerns raised by media practitioners. The Energy, Communication and Information committee however came out to support the Bill, saying there was nothing wrong with it.Further adding that the media was wrong in setting up the committee for ‘lynching’ by the public and he would encourage the big man,Uhuru Kenyatta to sign it into law.

Media Foe Turned friend,Hon Duale

Mr Duale said there was no need to be rash quipping that“ Whether he assents to it or not, we want to sit with the committee and go through each clause one by one to see which section if any, is draconian. We want to sit with the media fraternity and move ahead without emotions because we are making laws for posterity so that Kenya gets the best media laws that will ensure democracy and good governance is entrenched”.

Mr Duale has been on the receiving end of bad media publicity after he led MPs in demanding higher salaries
