BBA Update: Ethiopia’s Betty To Be Sued For “Having Sex in Public”

If you’ve been following ‘The Chase’ closely then you will remember that Chim recently wrote about Betty and Bolt having sex in Big Brother’s house. And now that is coming back to bite the Ethiopian a fortnight after her eviction from Big Brother.

An Ethiopian website, Awramba Times, is reporting that a group of lawyers in Addis Ababa has finalized its plans to sue Big Brother Africa’s 2013 contestant, Betty Abera for “having sex in public.” According to a local radio show, Ethiopikalink, if convicted, the young teacher could potentially face up to six years behind bars.

Betty and the recently evicted Sierra Leon Bolt became the first couple to engage in a “sex act” in this year’s Big Brother Africa,The Chase. Social media such as Facebook pages, including radio hosts in Ethiopia have been tirelessly condemning Betty’s very-open “hook up” on live television.

Apparently, it’s an offence to enagage in sex in public in the Eastern Africa country and the act attracts a heavy penalty. However pundits argue that the case does not hold water because;

1. She engage in the act this infront of the public as the rule says because no one was there except for the cameras.
2. There is no proof that sex is really took place because Betty and Bolt were under-covers.
3. Betty did not do the actwithin Ethiopia’s borders, so the rule doesn’t apply.
4. The government should have to sued the tv station (DStv) and not her for broadcasting that to the Ethiopian viewer.
5. Contestants actions are not representative of any country or group

Let’s wait and see how this plays out.
