The OLX SoMA 2015 Battle lines drawn; Here Are The Most Competitive Categories
OLX SoMA have either by design, destiny or both grown into a prestigious and highly sought after award over the past few years. Now in their third year, they are attracting huge numbers including over 200, 000 unique voters and promise to be one of the headlining events of the year come the awarding ceremony.
This year the awards have also served up pretty interesting competition in some of the categories and with all nominees doing their best to get the votes, there are some categories worth watching out as different industry heavyweights go head to head. So with only three days left to the end of the voting period, let us take a look at some of the most hotly contested categories.
The Social Network Category
This is one category with a number of mouth-watering battles. First under the Facebook Personality Award are three titans contesting for one of the highly coveted individual titles. Pastor, motivational speaker and fashion expert Isaac Robert Burale goes up against popular fashion blogger Lucia Musau and raunchy article writer and love doctor Philip Etemesi. These three are the leading favorites both with distinguishing personalities, different trades and with loyal following. This one is going down to the wire.

Mwalii Blog Writer Phlip Etemesi
Still under the Social Network Category is the another tantalizing battle, the Youtube Channel Award. Prominent Radio Queen Caroline Mutoko, Biggest Local Entertainment Media Ghafla Kenya, The most popular band Sauti Sol, the hilariously funny Hapa Kule News and Capital FM are all bonafide heavy weights. It is a close call battle given most of these share fans and have many followers so the best run campaign is what is going to win this.
Finally, in this category is the Instagram Personality Award. A couple of beauties and again Sauti Sol create an eye candy and quite tense match up. You have the voluptuous Grace Msalame, the soft spoken internet breaker Sharon Mundia, the sassy and sexy Avril and the ladies choice band Sauti Sol. This is just too much awesomeness in one category and voters are spoilt for choice here.
Media Category
This is one category that serves up two categories that promise gigantic battles in the form of The Most Social Television Show and Most Influential Media Personality. For the Most Social Television Show award KTN’s Jeff Koinange Live, Citizen’s Sunday Live, NTV’s The Trend and Am Live and finally Kiss TV’s Afterburn. In my informed opinion, this is the second tightest contest behind only the Most Influential Media Personality opinion.

The Most Influential Media Personality Award in some ways is a precursor to the individual duels that are expected to go down in this section. All the television heavyweights Jeff Koinange, Larry Madowo, Julie Gichuru and Churchill are present joined by the Radio Personality and equally influential Caroline Mutoko. Each of these individuals has the nous and gravitas to take the award home yet they are so distinct and command quite loyal fan bases. The one who will be able to cut across all the audience will take this award.
Educational Institution Category
There are two categories here but one serves up a tighter battle and that is the Most Social Learning Institution. University giants, the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University by sheer number of students should be able to have an upper hand but that would be to underestimate the effect of apathy on the part of most of their populations. CUEA, Zetech University and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology will be motivated with the chance to get one over the giants.
