Lost & Found: Remember Close-Up’s Fresh Freddy?

“Fresh Freddy loooves to shop!“

That was the most famous line from the Close Up series of ads which all featured some smooth guy called Fresh Freddy. To this day, it stands as one of the most famous ad characters in Kenyan TV history.

So succesful were the ads that some people still wonder where Fresh Freddy went. Well, I don’t know where he went but I can tell you where you can see him next. He is set to appear on Leo, a film to be released on the 29th of November.

Before Leo, the actor had been living in the UK where he was a member of the University of the West of England’s Theater group where he regularly performed on national television network, Channel 5.

His real name was Paddy Mwangi (not Fred) and he plays Fela, the title character’s older brother, who is also the film’s villain. According to the film’s Website, “The audience will love to hate him through the relationship with Leo as well as everything he stands for in our society that degrades and decomposes it daily.”
