Female Patron Complains About Being Butt-Grabbed At Bacchus Lounge

A great number of hang-out joints have had their fair share of drama with their customers. The latest to be dogged by controversy is Bacchus Lounge in Westlands. According to a complaint letter in our possession, it appears the club is not only “pumping music with lines pouring into the street” like it’s selling statement alleges, but is now harassing female clients.

One Mwari Walaiboni cried foul after her friend got butt-grabbed at the Woodvale Grove-situated club and when they complained they were kicked out of the joint.

“Truly saddened by an event that happened tonight: At a very frequented bar in Westlands on Woodvale Grove, BACCHUS, catching up with close friends a guy grabs my friend’s bottom. When we confront him he laughs it off, and of course it wasn’t funny. So we call the bouncer and just as the bouncer starts talking to him, a big bodied, bald, bearded guy walks up to us and starts yelling “he’s apologizing so calm your ass!”, in defense of the perpetrator.

The big, bald, bearded man says he works at the establishment. He refused to give us his name when we asked for it. In other words he was saying, suck it up and forget that your body, your dignity has been violated. The BACCHUS guy continued to yell “calm your a**”. In no time, that became, “Respect me! Respect me!” As if he’s the one whose body, respect and dignity had been violated. Somehow, he got the bouncers on his side and they kicked us out. Shocking! The thought of the big, bald, bearded BACCHUS guy being someone who is supposed to protect his daughter, sister, mother or wife/girlfriend shook the core of me. If his mentality is that of my friend should calm her a** for being smacked, how will he protect his own?

At a moment when we Kenyans are so hopeful for the future of our country, one cannot help but wonder how far we’ll go if our men continue to abuse women, blame them for the violations, and go off unpunished. Where are the Kenyan men and women standing for the women being abused in broad daylight? How are Kenyan women to make a meaningful contribution to the development of our country if this is the pervasive mentality in our homes, corporations, government and country as a whole? Now I’m starting to understand why some Kenyans just up and leave the country in search of systems that are more just and protective of their rights and dignity. So sad!

This is not to discourage anyone from visiting the BACCHUS establishment. This is a warning to ALL WOMEN. Because any woman is, obviously, at a risk of having her behind smacked and from the behavior of the big bald bearded man in charge at the establishment, it is okay for drank men to do so and, YOU, the violated one will get kicked out for airing your disapproval.

p.s: The big, bald, bearded BACCHUS guy is NOT a bouncer!”

Over to you Bacchus.
