For the First Time in CHAT Awards History…
So for the FIRST time in the entire 10 year history of the Chaguo La Teeniez Awards, the Insyder and Skiza sponsored event will not be open to a general paying audience at the venue, but primarily what the organizers say will be a Television event.
Thus brings back memories of last year’s Groove Party, which was meant to be the BIGGEST New Year Party in Kenya’s history, up until security concerns clouded the country and the event was made a LIVE television broadcast. Kenyans had mixed feelings about the change but were content to watch their favourite artistes perform in studio to music they were looking forward to seeking performed at the venue.
Those who bought tickets to Groove were systematically refunded and Kenya ushered in the year 2012. This year, Safaricom has ‘gone H.A.M’ on sponsoring local music aggressively, especially with their ringtone platform, Skiza tunes, which has seen the company support Groove and CHAT, as well as the Kenya LIVE experience.
Information about just how this 2012 Insyder CHAT Awards with Skiza will take place has been scanty, with organizers not giving out much information about what will happen and how it will take place. We’ve only got an update from DJ Kaytrix on his Facebook page that was:
Is it then that the awards will be recorded? (thus the fact that voting closed yesterday, Wednesday) Why is it that the organizers have chosen to branch out of what we thought was a lucrative awards ceremony?
Last year’s CHAT awards edition was a massive success with attendees awed by the glitzy arrivals and performances of some of Kenya’s top celebrities, and the fact that Skiza is still on board only serves to solidify this train of thought.
If it’s an experiment they are trying to carry out, we are interested to see just how it will work out for CHAT, and more particularly whether it will be a continuing trend. Until then, all the best to the nominees and let’s look forward to a fantastic 10th edition.
