Kenyan Musicians May Never Get Another Opportunity Like This, Register Now for 2012 WOMEX
The 2012 World Music Expo will this year take place at one of the cradles of mankind, in Thessaloniki/Greece, from the 17th to the 21st of October 2012. What a befitting venue to host one of humanity’s most inspired and natural creations.
A number of Kenyans have performed at the World Music Expo before, including the Kenge Kenge band, and this year local musicians have the chance of showcasing their work yet again on this global forum.
The World Music Expo (WOMEX) is thus calling for proposals in four categories:
Conference proposals
Film Screening proposals
Showcase proposals
Club GlobalKan
For the conference proposals, WOMEX delegates tend to like sessions with skillfully presented, solid information of use to the world music network; talks on new trends and technologies for music; talks on culture and the politics of culture; introductions to traditions; ‘must-know’ musical discoveries shared; state of the market discussions; insight into the brands-and-music relationship; updates on rights issues; interviews with noteworthy artists; how-to sessions… You get the idea.
The Film proposals are independently juried by the IMZ International Music + Media Centre, Vienna, and is open to all music-related films with what they ask should be ‘great cinematic quality’.
Artists and DJs from across the world are invited to apply for Showcase proposals for WOMEX 12. If selected by the WOMEX Jury, you’ll play in front of the largest audience anywhere of international world music concert and festival bookers (over 700 last year), labels, distributors, journalists and industry professionals – everyone you need to help launch, re-launch, sustain and expand your career. All music styles are welcome to apply.
Finally Club Globalkan will be a special feature to celebrate music from the Balkan states of predominantle Eastern Europe, where the WOMEX 2012 will take place.
IMPORTANT to note is that the deadline for all these sections open to (Kenyan) musicians is FRIDAY 13th APRIL 2012.
