After Mike Sonko,Another Wealthy Nairobi Business Mogul Jumps To The Rescue Of The Viral English-Speaking Chokora.
What we need is opportunity! We have such a talent in the streets, and what do we do about it? We look down! We shy away! We get scared! We pretend we don’t see them! THEM; The street families.
After seeing the video with the street boy; Candy n Candy CEO, Joe Kariuki was touched, and as Joe Kariuki never shies away from giving new opportunities he has now come forward and told us that he is already looking for the boy to help him change his life.
Joe Kariuki, “This young man has something! It breaks my heart to see young people of Kenya being in the streets. He talks about opportunity and if he is ready I am ready to give him an opportunity for changing his life and for using his talents! I will personally help him go into rehabilitation and to school! And I want to see him being an example for others…
We need to look further into the real problem behind him being in the streets, and we need to engage the families. This is another reason to help empowering the women of Kenya. If the women are empowered they will empower the families. Do you think an empowered family will allow their kids to get lost in the street? They will do whatever is in their power to give them a home and a safe upbringing”
This is just yet another reason why African Women and Beyond can have such a high impact on communities. Co-founder AFWAB, Martine Kappel: “From working with street kids for a number of years, I have experienced how challenging it is for them to trust and to believe that they also deserve love. Often the kids do have parents, but their homes are dysfunctional, and the family they find in the street is there for them. We all need love and safety. It is so important that we help women in creating this for their families! Which is why AFWAB is so close to my heart”
The initiative of AFWAB, African Women and Beyond, is building platforms for empowering women especially women from the jua kali sector. Let us all support our women in building their businesses so they can provide safety for their families.
