Alex Mwakideu says this is the worst world cup ever

Radio host Alex Mwakideu has voiced concerns about the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, saying the tournament is already facing a number of challenges before kick-off.

Speaking on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Mwakideu pointed to reports of travel and entry restrictions affecting some participants and questioned how such issues could impact the competition.

“Hii World Cup ya Marekani by the way imeleta issues kibao,” Mwakideu said.

One of the examples he highlighted involved Iran. According to Mwakideu, reports indicate that the Iranian national team could face restrictions regarding where they stay during the tournament.

“Unajua kama Iran kwa mfano wameambiwa kabisa mnacheza mkirudi. Mtakuwa mnakaa Mexico,” he said.

Concerns Over Referee Participation

Mwakideu also discussed the case of a Somali referee whom he said had been selected by FIFA to officiate matches at the World Cup.

He identified the official as Omar Artan, describing him as a young and promising referee who had earned an opportunity to officiate on football’s biggest stage.

“Kuna referee Msomali ameambiwa kabisa hautaingia America,” Mwakideu claimed.

According to the media personality, FIFA had selected Artan to oversee matches during the tournament, but he alleged that there were challenges surrounding his entry into the United States.

“FIFA imemchagua referee kabisa kutoka Somalia, kijana mdogo. Kijana chipukeezy. Anaitwa Omar Artan,” he said.

Mwakideu further claimed that despite receiving the FIFA appointment, the referee had reportedly been informed that he would not be allowed into the host nation.

“FIFA imesema wewe utasimamia mechi za World Cup, America imesema hautakanyaga America,” he added.

Questions Ahead of the Tournament

The broadcaster noted that football remains one of the most popular sports in the world but argued that the upcoming tournament is already attracting controversy due to various restrictions and logistical concerns.

As he wrapped up his remarks, Mwakideu suggested that the growing list of issues had sparked criticism from some observers.

“Kimeumana kweli, watu wanasema it is the worst World Cup ever,” he said.
