Apart From Lupita Nyong’o, Here Are Other Kenyan Actors Who Have Made It In Hollywood

We are all proud of Lupita’s fetes in Hollywood.She is causing quite the stir not  only on the red carpet where she rocks like Prada like it’s going out of style but also on the big screen in 12 years a slave.

Apart from Lupita,there have been other Kenyan actors who have made their mark in Hollywood  mostly in sci-fi movies and they include the following:

Mary Oyaya

She played the role of Jedi Master Luminara Unduli in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones a role she got through her agent.Her character is also on the cover of Alan Dean Foster novel Star Wars The Approaching Storm

Benjamin Ochieng’

He has been featured in programs such as The X-Files (1999), Tears of the Sun (2003), The Shield series (2005), The Anatolian (2007) and The Disciple (2008).Born in Nairobi Kenya,the fluent Swahili Speaker has quickly become the go-to man in Hollywood for Swahili related roles.

Edi Gathegi

He was born on March 10, 1979 but relocated to California in his formative years and  studied acting at New York University..The gods were kind to him and and soon after  he began landing prestigious roles on television shows like CSI: Miami and House M.D. Gathegi’s big break on the silver screen came when he was cast as Laurent a nomadic vampire in Twilight (2008). He later appeared in the sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), and has later bagged a role in X-Men: First Class (2011).

Kiran Shah

Born in Nairobi Kenya in 1956,Shah is both an actor and stuntman who has been featured in about every major and minor Fantasy and Sci-Fi movie franchises over the last three decades including Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, Legend, Aliens The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,Gothic among others

Charles Gitonga Maina

Born in 1976, the 6’10” Kenyan-born actor is  known for his  role as an African basketball player discovered by a college basketball assistant coach desperate for a promotion  in the movie ‘The Air Up There.’

 Kipsang’ Rotich in Star Wars

He voices  Nien Nunb in Star Wars-Return of the Jedi ,who replaced some of his lines with Kenyan dialogue Kikuyu to be specific,though he is not not credited for his role in the film.
