Astar Releases Awesome New Hip Hop Track

Astar has released a new song, The Calling. The single comes off his album, Letting It Go. The song was released under MWAPI and Cleaning The Airwaves. Letting It Go is Astar’s fifth compilation after The Remix, For The Fans, CTA (Cleaning The Airwaves) and The Light.

The song’s track features a simple kick that shifts to a shaker and later a sonar-style beep and piano towards the end. The chorus is autotuned to a broadcast muffle. As for Astar’s lyrics, it’s a straight-up gospel song talking about different aspects of Christian life. The progression is solid and the flow is tight, undoubtedly putting Astar as one of the best rappers in the country overall, not just in gospel music. The production was done by Desmond Bosire a.k.a Big Boss.

The video was actually all done in one take. It’s not complicated but I must admit, it’s still pretty cool. Astar stays on one spot and the camera is hovers but remains static throughout the video. The focus shifts from time to time to break the monotony. The video was directed by Tony Mwaura of Washamba Limited, who have done some really good music videos, mostly for gospel artistes. A notable one would be Juliani’s Hello. the end
