Catherine Kasavuli Speaks On Her Alleged Relationship With Kanda Bongoman That Led To His Deportation
There is an urban legend that Congolese soukous musician Kanda Bongo Man was once deported from the country and promptly forbidden from entering Kenya for ‘nyemelearing’ and dating TV queen Catherine Kasavuli.
Catherine Kasavuli spoke to the Nairobian, to bring to light what really transpired that led to this scandal that has hovered over her reputation for decades.
She says that she didn’t know the musician by the time the rumors started leave alone dating him. Explaining that “A senior politician’s daughter was wedding and they invited Kanda Bongo Man to perform. Unfortunately, Kanda Bongo Man’s visa had expired. I was reading news when he was getting kicked out and I have no clue how my name ended up there, It is the price I had to pay for being in the limelight.”
But she met him later, in 2012 to be specific after a minister of Information organized a meet-up with the artiste. “We went to the airport (with the Minister) where I met the musician for the first time in 2012 when he made his first comeback,” Catherine says adding that, “Kanda sympathised with me for what I went through because of him and I felt sorry for the Kenyan fans he had lost.”
