Former female world boxing champion, Conjestina Achieng, is living a tough life in her rural home in Yala, Siaya County.

38-year-old Conje was the talk of the nation during her heydays when she would box her opponents silly and bag numerous boxing belts which came with monetary benefits.

The boxer elevated her life with the money she got from her fights but poverty sneaked back when she fell sick.

Conje was diagnosed with schizo-affective disorder or paranoid schizophrenia, a chronic mental illness in which a person loses touch with reality.

The former female world boxing champion has now been reduced to a life of a common villager struggling to make ends meet.

Conje was spotted in her village and her physical appearance was wanting. She had lost weight and she was donning a blue hood, grey short and red slippers.
