Corruption Charges Withdrawn Against Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado
Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado has secured a significant legal win after a Nairobi court sanctioned an agreement leading to the withdrawal of long-standing corruption charges against him.
In its ruling, the court found no evidence of abuse of office or improper conduct by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) regarding the settlement. The presiding judge affirmed the legitimacy of the process, stating that the court did not find any misuse of power in how the DPP reached the agreement.
Meeting the Legal Threshold
The court further determined that the settlement satisfied all statutory requirements and met the necessary legal standards. By formally adopting the agreement, the court cleared the path for the case to be discontinued.
“The agreement has surmounted the legal test required, and this court hereby adopts the same,” the ruling confirmed.
Case Formally Closed
Following the adoption of the agreement, all charges against Obado were officially withdrawn under Section 87(a) of the Criminal Procedure Code. This move effectively terminates the proceedings against the former governor, bringing a close to this chapter of his legal battles.
