Did You Know Veteran Columnist Philip Ochieng’ Lacks a Degree & Doesn’t Believe in God?

The veteran journalist recently during an interview with Emeka-Mayaka Gekara and Julius Sigei of Saturday Nation revealed why he did not get a university degree despite being a beneficiary of the 1959 Tom Mboya student airlifts. He also revealed why he rejected God.

Speaking about his interests in knowledge on how human societies live and work which includes history, sociology, anthropology and religion, more so comparative religion the Fifth Columnist as he’s popularly known, revealed that he does not believe in God and that he is an Atheist. “I read a great deal on comparative religion despite my atheistic learning,” said Ochieng’.

Despite being brought up in a staunch Seventh Day Adventist family, his parents ensured that he grew up in the ways of the church. Asked at what point he rejected God, Phillip says, “I can’t point to any particular time because it must have been a very long process. But I can say it could have something to do with that very strict SDA upbringing where you had to go to church twice a day seven days a week. My grounding with Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin also has something to do with my atheism.”

Ochieng’ expalins that he married at a wrong time hence did not complete his degree in Literature despite being a beneficiary of the late Tom Mboya/Kennedy airlift in 1959 and that’s why he came back without a degree. “The result of that union is a daughter who discovered me two years ago. She was brought up in similar circumstances with (President) Obama.

Phillip is also writing a book titled History of Religion, where he intends to show that Christology (the notion that God sent a messenger (his son) to save mankind) was invented in Africa. There is an intellectual problem. The whole notion of a son implies sex. Can a male God have a son? If it were so, then Christology has been quiet about his female partner.
