Ex Tahidi High, Makutano Junction & Machachari Director Loses Battle With Cancer

Liver cancer has taken the life of the experienced TV director Omfwoko Aswani.

According to an interview he did with People Daily, he only found out about the disease last month(September), after stomach pains turned into an abdominal inflammation, so it must have been noticed too late.

Omfwoko has directed several high-profile TV productions in Kenya, including Tahidi High, Makutano Junction, Machachari, Mashtaka, Mama Duka and Auntie Boss.

His final interview with the People two weeks ago was illustrative of his bad condition. He talked of how the illness was so far off that medication had stopped working, and the doctor advised he doesn’t do any chemotherapy or radiology. Omfwoko ended up in a hospice where they gave him hope. He said, “I am not scared. I believe that God sends to us sickness to test our faith and I believe that I will come out of it strong. I am a staunch Muslim, and the Koran says ‘I will send unto you diseases so I may test you’.”

Omfwoko leaves behind his wife, Halima. He was 34 years old. May he rest in peace.
