From Rags to Riches: A Moving Story About Kenya’s Upcoming Film Director
When you think of video or camera props, your mind quickly switches to $$$ that you do not have but need! In order to purchase these rather pricey equipments, making it very hard for the kawaida mwananchi to join videography or even think of it! And the equipments are mostly bought from abroad. If you’ve ever seen prices of cranes, steady cams, lighting etc…you know what I’m talking about.
What we do not know is, in Nairobi, there exists a guy who actually makes these equipments. Easy for you actually, cause you no longer have to rob a bank to get equipment. Below are some of his work;


So while you dear persons sit on your hands hoping for ideas and money to fall on your lap, Paul Kihuha went out and did something with his life. He is guy from a very humble background, he actually dropped out of school (Kagira Pri. Sch.), class eight to be precise. Life for him didn’t end there, with a passion to learn, he got skills from his father, who was a blacksmith…as years went by, and equipped Paul started his own workshop in 2012 alongside his friend. He now makes camera cranes, something that started simply from scrap metal but to now a booming business.
Aka Pro Tisa, Paul later decided to try filming. After years of hiring and making of these equipments, it was bound to happen sooner or later. This Tv series that he is currently working on is based around crime. It is titled KIKI. His wears the shoes of a director and script writer together with his colleagues Charlie Kimilu & Waruingi Mwaniki.
A Jack of many trades, Paul also mentors young guys in metal work skills and film. His long time goal is to open an institution in which he will be able to pass his skills on to others.
