Most of these pills are to lighten the skin of their unborn babies while they are still in the womb.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, medical experts say these illegal drugs can cause birth defects. Moreover, these defects include damage to limbs and internal organs.<\/p>\n<h4>Statement from Food and Drugs Authority about pregnant women bleaching<\/h4>\n<p>Ghana&#8217;s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says using Glutathione pills for this purpose is dangerous. Also, it wants<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;the general public needs to know that no product has been approved by the FDA in the form of a tablet to lighten the skin of the unborn child\u201d.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The practice is growing in Ghana. Also, according to the FDA, these pills are often smuggled into the country inside luggage at airports in large quantities.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, FDA hasn&#8217;t gathered comprehensive data.<\/p>\n<p>However, the body says market surveillance and stakeholder activity have helped to reveal the trend among women across socio-economic divides.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, security agencies and police are working together to arrest and prosecute companies and individuals in possession of the illegal tablets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pregnant women need to be careful.
