During the Independence Day celebrations, the President gave a speech that touched on the Special Prosecutor’s responsibilities. He stated that the fight against corruption is ongoing.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, he promised Ghanaians that public officials, past and present, would be accountable for pilfering the public purse.<\/p>\n
He made the speech at the Black Star Square to mark Ghana\u2019s 61st Independence.<\/p>\n
Moreover, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said he will not be swayed by political considerations in his quest to protect the public purse.<\/p>\n
\u201cFellow Ghanaians, corruption, or, more specifically, the stealing of public funds, continues to hold back the development of our nation. Corruption is not a partisan matter and we must all act to protect the public purse.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The President fulfilled his 2016 campaign promise to set up the Office of Special Prosecutor. This was to fight deep-seated corruption that has rendered many public institutions dysfunctional.<\/p>\n
Also, the President is hopeful that \u201cwith the office of the Special Prosecutor now in place we can expect more prosecutions for corruption in the coming months.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n
