Bill Asamoah, President of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Actors Guild has expressed his extreme disappointment at the members of the Ghana Foreign Language Committee saying that they should bow their heads in shame for failing to nominate a movie to represent Ghana at the 2018 Oscars.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Hitz FM\u2019s Nana Qwame Larbi,\u00a0 Bill Asamoah stressed that the committee should have educated movie makers more on the qualification and selection process.<\/p>\n
Bill Asamoah expressed that the committee should have put proper arrangements in place to reach out to other parts of Ghana to find movies that could make the cut.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhoever was in charge of getting the nomination and selection of the movies should bow their heads in shame. The committee should not have stayed in Accra, they were supposed to educate movie makers more about the nomination process,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Professor Linus Abraham, Chairman of the Committee announced in Accra recently that none of the three films \u2013 \u2018Children of the Mountain\u2019, \u2018Na Me Nim\u2019 and \u2018Black Monkey\u2019 \u2013 submitted met the requirements for the Foreign Language Oscars which automatically disqualified them from being nominated.<\/p>\n
According to Professor Abraham, the committee detected various anomalies with the submissions of all three films, \u201cand so the committee had no choice but to disqualify them, to preserve the integrity of the committee and of Ghana\u2019s participation in the Oscars.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bill Asamoah, however emphasized that, other parts of the country such as the Ashanti Region and Northern Regions of Ghana have very good indigenous movies with great story lines that could easily have made it to the Oscars.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
