{"id":22629,"date":"2018-03-15T09:28:11","date_gmt":"2018-03-15T09:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghafla.com\/gh\/?p=22629"},"modified":"2018-03-15T09:28:11","modified_gmt":"2018-03-15T09:28:11","slug":"joe-m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/gh\/joe-m\/","title":{"rendered":"I Used To Sell &#8216;Waakye Leaves&#8217; To Support My Family &#8211; Joe Mettle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Award-wining Gospel Musician, Joe Mettle has revealed that he was hawking at a tender age to support his family due to the financial challenges.<\/p>\n<p>According to the &#8220;Bo Noo Ni&#8221; hitmaker, he started selling at age 16 in order to survive.<\/p>\n<p>The reigning Ghana Music Awards &#8216;Artiste of the Year&#8217;, made this revelation on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.<\/p>\n<p>Joe Mettle said he was selling \u2018waakye leaves\u2019 which was the major business of her mother.<\/p>\n<p>However, the business collapsed due to the influx of plastic bags and take-away packs. <em>\u2018\u2019I sell before going to school. When I am in the afternoon shift, I sell in the morning. When I am in the morning shift, I sell after school but due to the nature of the job, I wake up very early in the morning to go and sell.<\/em>\u2019\u2019 He recounted on the mid-morning show with host Sokoohemaa Kukua.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, he understood the situation at the time and sacrificed for the family.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22705\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22705\" style=\"width: 293px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2018\/03\/Joe-Mettle.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-22705\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2018\/03\/Joe-Mettle.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22705\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joe Mettle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Background<\/h3>\n<p>Joe Mettle, born Joseph Oscar Mettle began his musical journey as a backing vocalist for some great Ghanaian Gospel musicians. Some of them include; Cindy Thompson, late Danny Nettey, and Reverend Tom Bright Davies.<\/p>\n<p>He was the lead singer for the indigenous multicultural music group, Soul Winners.<\/p>\n<p>He has won several awards at Africa Gospel Music Awards, Gospel industry Awards, African Gospel Awards (UK), CCML Ghana Gospel Awards, Bass Awards and RIGA Awards (South Africa).
