The ‘fugu’ or smock<\/em> is the most distinctive dress from northern Ghana which has gained national significance.<\/p>\n

From the dawn of civilisation, man has had an intense relationship with nature. And one of the basic natural products that man uses for various purposes is Cotton.<\/em><\/p>\n

Cotton is known for its versatility, use and natural comfort. It is used to make all kinds of clothes and\u00a0 materials for domestic use, as well as industrial purposes.<\/p>\n

Cotton fiber is woven or knitted into fabrics such as the \u201cfugu\u201d and \u201cKente.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tamale, Bolgatanga, Wa,\u00a0 Daboya, Yendi and its environs have a particularly strong tradition of weaving fugu.<\/p>\n

The best known fugu is Daboya (meaning, \u201cour brother is better than us\u201d). Daboya fugus are famous for their beauty, patterns, colours, motifs, artistic appearance and texture.<\/p>\n

There are so many items, ranging from shoes, bags, purses, earrings etc that can be made with the fugu. As we have just a few days to wrap up for the ‘Wear Ghana Month’, we bring you a few of such items.<\/p>\n
