Over the past weeks, troubling reports have come out of Kumasi Academy. There were reports that students were dying after a short illness.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, there are fears of a swine flu outbreak in Ghana. This is because the studentswho have been falling ill and in some cases been dying over the past few days were diagnosed with swine flu.<\/p>\n
Noguchi Research Institute carried out tests. They found out that the students are infected with Type A Influenza, more commonly known as swine flu.<\/p>\n
The strain of infection is the H1N1. This virus caused a massive pandemic in 2009.<\/p>\n
Currently, it’s unknown how many students have contracted the virus. However, it is known to rapidly spread amongst infected populations. This would explain the massive number of students infected.<\/p>\n
Currently 44 students are receiving treatment whilst close to a dozen have died.<\/p>\n
Initially, some parents withdrew their wards from the school during the chaos. Later, they brought them back for inoculation.<\/p>\n
This raises questions of how far the virus could travel in the general population. It can be assumed that any parent or anyone else has contracted it from a student.<\/p>\n
