Ghanaian singer, Noella Wiyaala is obviously a global woman now considering what<\/p>\n

the South China Morning Post has to say about her.<\/p>\n

The South China Morning Post, published in Hong Kong, has cited the Ghanaian<\/p>\n

singer as a role model for Chinese women to follow.<\/p>\n

Luisa Tam, senior editor at the Post, wrote \u201cLike Wiyaala, we must look deep inside ourselves <\/em><\/p>\n

and find out what makes us special, and then own it and wear it proudly. That\u2019s individuality,<\/em><\/p>\n

and it\u2019s cool to be one of a kind.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The writer was commenting on women around the world who are shaking up society\u2019s<\/p>\n

traditional view of female beauty whilst singling out South Korea, where an increasing<\/p>\n

number of women are joining the #EscapeTheCorset movement, the latest in a series<\/p>\n

of feminist initiatives in the country since the #MeToo campaign.<\/p>\n

She explains: \u201cThe movement aims to detox society of the many harmful ideals of what it means to be feminine, and beautiful. It encourages women to escape the corset of traditional beauty standards, and instead come to accept and be proud of who they are.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In fulsome praise of Wiyaala\u2019s tenacity and influence, Luisa added; \u201cGhanaian pop star Noella Wiyaala, the self-proclaimed \u201cLioness of Africa\u201d, was rejected three times by a television talent show. The reason? The executives said she wasn\u2019t \u201cfeminine\u201d enough for their show.<\/em><\/p>\n

In spite of this, she has repeatedly refused to conform to their traditional idea of what makes a woman beautiful. Rather than turn herself into another Beyonc\u00e9 or Rihanna, she has kept her short hair and muscular body. Wiyaala said she \u201cdidn\u2019t care\u201d about what the executives thought, and preferred to be herself, and wear her short hair because she \u201cfeels cool\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

On her fourth attempt, she won in the show and is proud to be singing in her native Sissala language, and has spring boarded it into prominence, and on to the world stage.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
