Everyone counts down the days to Christmas. People love the season for different reasons. One thing remains clear, Christmas is the season to cut back and relax<\/p>\n<p>However, there are certain facts we need to keep at the back of our heads while celebrating Christmas.<\/p>\n<h4>Facts About Christmas<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Christmas comes from a pagan tradition known as Saturnalia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>December 25 was probably chosen because it coincided with the ancient pagan festival Saturnalia, which celebrated the agricultural god Saturn with partying, gambling, and gift-giving.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Santa Claus is from Saint Nicholas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Santa Claus comes from St. Nicholas, a Christian bishop living in the fourth century AD. St. Nicholas inherited a great deal of wealth and was known for giving it away to help the needy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Christmas used to be illegal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since it stemmed from a Pagan tradition it was made illegal in some countries and people were arrested if they even dared to celebrate it<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gift giving during Christmas was to symbolise the gifts given to Christ<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The suit for Santa Claus was inspired by Coca-Cola<\/strong><br \/>\nThough Santa Claus has worn blue and white and green in the past, his traditional red suit came from a 1930s ad by Coca Cola.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Christmas is arguably the most celebrated holiday of all.
