Interesting times are ahead in Ghana. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has named Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor.<\/p>\n
President Nana Addo announced this at a press conference held at the flagstaff house. He revealed Mr Amidu as his nominee for the office he created. This was\u00a0after an emergency cabinet meeting at the Flagstaff House.<\/p>\n
The Special Prosecutor is to go after government appointees, both past and present, who loot the public purse.<\/p>\n
Astonishingly, Martin Amidu is an NDC member. He was a former Attorney General under President John Atta Mills. However, he became a fierce critic of his own party in recent years.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Mr. Amidu earned the nickname \u2018Citizen Vigilante<\/em>\u2019 for his no-nonsense stance. Also, for his campaign against corruption particularly in the NDC administration.<\/p>\n The appointment of Mr. Amidu came as a shock to many. This was because he was never mentioned when names were been bandied around in the media.<\/p>\n The President said he received the nomination from the Attorney General Sophia Akuffo.<\/p>\n The Office will have the mandate to investigate and prosecute cases of alleged corruption under the Public Procurement Act 203 Act 63.<\/p>\n Furthermore, it will deal with other corruption-related offenses implicating public officers, political office holders and their accomplices in the public sector.<\/p>\n Also, the Prosecutor will be mandated to trace and recover the proceeds of corruption.<\/p>\n Amidu\u2019s appointment would be subject to Parliamentary approval.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Interesting times are ahead in Ghana.
