Grammy-Award Winning Musician and Macklemore’s Trumpeter Owuor Arunga Set To Shut Down Nairobi

This Thursday (30th July 2015) – Nairobi Rapsody goes live, presenting Grammy-award winning musician Owuor Arunga in a trumpet DJ set at Ebony Lounge, Westlands, Nairobi – Kenya.

Enjoy a night of great music by the Sultan Of Swag and the cool cat, also Coke Studio Africa season 3 – music producer. Welcome to the most unique show they have had at Nairobi Rapsody yet! 

The undisputed trumpeter is Kenyan born and based in Seattle. He is celebrated as producer, music director and trumpeter of American hip hop artist Macklemore.

The team has recorded albums, toured the world and won four Grammies at the 56th annual Grammy Awards, among other equally impressive feats. Owuor studied under the Apprenticeship systems at The New School University in New York. He has been mentored by Olu Dara (Nas’ Father), Jimmy Owens and Ahmed Abdullah, among others.

Owuor Arunga is also back on Coke Studio Africa and has in the upcoming new season of the show – produced mash-ups between Victoria Kimani (Kenya) Vs Alikiba (Tanzania) and Hernani De Silva (Mozambique) Vs Afro Di’Ja (Nigeria). In the second season of Coke Studio Africa he collaborated with Marlene of Mozambique and Kenya’s Kaka Sungura in the hit Coke Studio Africa “Ligi Soo” video which you can check out below:

Owuor is also CEO of Arunga Music LLC and music director of One Vibe Africa’s Madaraka Festival. Owuor is also an ambassador of One Vibe Africa; a project he started, together with fellow Seattle based artists, to mentor youths in the slum areas Of Kisumu to keep working towards their dreams of becoming great people in whatever they choose to pursue in life.

Founded by Kenyan Hip Hop entrepreneurs: Buddha Blaze and Rashid Jibril; Nairobi Hip Hop Rapsody is a musical showcase to put Nairobi city on the map of global hip hop and promote Kenyan hip hop as the home of classic hip hop in East Africa. For the first time in Kenya Nairobi Rapsody hosted New York rapper Mos Def (Yasiin Bey) and Talib Kweli in 2015 and 2014, respectively. A host of great local and international hip hop talent have been hosted. They include over 25 DJs including G Money (Jamaica/Kenya), DJ Cortega (Switzerland), DJ Big Bear (USA), DJKace (Netherlands) and more. DJ Zaq, DJ Gapp, DJ Supreme, DR. Boom a.k.a. Blinky Bill.
