Insyder Magazine Makes At LEAST 90 Million Shillings Annually From It’s Teenie Monopoly

… and I’m jealous.

So today I picked up a copy of the Insyder magazine that was lying around the office. It is the August 2012 copy (in the picture in this article) and out of curiousity, I wanted to figure out how much the Insyder made off of that particular copy. I was able to do this due to a rate card I picked up from the Insyder offices on my random travels. I basically counted the ads in the magazine and assigned a price to them, according to the rate card. I then added up the total amount, and so I figured that Insyder made:

2.5 MILLION Kenya Shillings in the month of August ALONE!

And that’s only advertising. Let’s now look at how much the magazine makes out of selling the actual paper. Insyder, according to these reports( http://www.slideshare.net/kenyanteen/presentations ), purports that they sell a total of 25,000 units of the magazine per month. Considering the mag retails for 200bob a piece, then the total revenue from direct sales comes to:

25,000 X 200 = 5 MILLION Kenya Shillings!

Sum up the revenue from ads and direct sales, and it comes to 7.5 milli.

Multiply that by 12, and the potential annual revenues from Insyder magazine are 90 MILLION Kenya Shillings.
Add to that the fact that Insyder now has a flourishing events department aimed at teenie functions, and you’ll find that they probably make more than that. Probably north of 100 mill. A certified million-dollar business.
The only question that remains is, why has no-one competed with them in 10 years for these revenues?
