There’s a budding culture of unprotected sex among Kenyan youth, we call it #TeamRaw, #RawGang’. As young people, we want to engage in unprotected coitus because it’s ‘sweeter’…..or so we say. But wait…..the last time I checked, there were different types of condoms to grant you whatever type of pleasure you want to feel. So why take the riskier route? Because it’s cool? Because everyone’s doing it?

Let’s not kid ourselves, the fear of disease was buried somewhere on a greek island. I’ve heard someone say that one shouldn’t fear HIV because you might protect yourself all your life but still get hit by a bus. Hmmm…….The only fear that’s present especially among guys is fear of pregnancy. I love to call it ball-o-phobia

Young men have adopted questionable policies to deal with pregnancy related issues. Some guys will argue that their pull-out game is strong. This simply means that they are able to withdraw before ejaculating. Some guys just pump, dump and disappear because according to them, it’s the chic’s responsibility to take care of herself. Some have perfected the art of denial. It’s all fun and games during the act but when she says she’s pregnant…………..deny, deny, deny like a kid who stole 20 bob from her mother’s purse

What do the ladies do? Some end up taking contraceptives without seeking the guidance of a gynecologist every month despite the danger this posses to their bodies. Some are like Albert Einsten. They have perfected the numbers game in this thing called ‘Safe Days’.

But by doing all this, are you really being true to yourself? Unprotected sex becomes cool just because someone else told you so? You meet someone and sleep with them on the first day without even getting tested? You pop in pills every month without thinking about your fertility?

Kuwa True. Have your own stand. If you barely know the person,at least get tested first or cover yourself up. Don’t be the one to be easily led astray. Don’t be quick to follow someone else’s wishes without thinking of the consequences such wishes will have on your life.

Do it raw just because the other person said they hate CDs? Kataahiyo. If you aren’t using a rubber or getting tested first, then there should be no discussion about sex. Your future depends on the decisions you make right now.Your body is your greatest asset, take care of it.
