K24 TV Investigative Journalist Escapes Thugs As They Hurt Her Driver

Journalists are no longer safe in Kenya. We are no longer safe in our own country. Even when we thought we are fighting external aggression, there are those who have made it their profound mission to give Kenyan citizens sleepless nights as they go hunting for their dear lives.

This is exactly what K24 TV’s investigative journalist Purity Mwambia is going through at this moment.

The reporter escaped the wrath of thugs who were looking for her last Friday evening as they broke into K24 TV driver’s house, demanding that he directs them to Mwambia’s house.

When the driver failed to comply, he was hit hard by the thugs who carried blunt like pangas and axes and left with severe body injuries.

According to the driver, the thugs wanted to know where Purity resided and demanded that he gives them the laptop she uses to store her investigative stories. However, the driver did not have the laptop at that time.

He says that the thugs demanded that he takes them to Mwambia’s place but thankfully, the neighbors who had heard the commotion in the driver’s compound started making noise which scared the thugs away.

This begs the question: how safe are journalists in Kenya? Is the society rotten to an extent that people don’t want the truth to be told?

It seems every Kenyan is just very unsafe and it is time our authorities rose up to the accession and protected every Kenyan.

Here is the video of the account as given by the driver:
