2Mbili Calls for Release of Streamer Vindee After Arrest During June 25 Protests

YouTuber and car reviewer 2Mbili has joined calls for the release of Kenyan streamer Vindee following his arrest during the June 25 demonstrations in Nairobi.

In a message shared on Instagram on Thursday, June 25, 2026, 2Mbili expressed concern over Vindee’s welfare, particularly after learning that the streamer had been taken into police custody during a cold day while wearing light clothing.

According to 2Mbili, Vindee should not spend the night at Central Police Station, noting that the streamer was arrested while dressed in only a Maasai shuka and sandals.

“Vindee should not spend the night at the Central Police Station!! He only had the Maasai Shuka and the sandals!! Let’s save him from this cold and other things!!” 2Mbili wrote.

He accompanied his message with the hashtags #FreeVindee and #FreeISawSpeed, a nickname linked to the streamer among some of his supporters.

Vindee’s Arrest During Demonstrations

The appeal came hours after Vindee was arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) during demonstrations held to commemorate victims of the 2024 Gen Z protests.

The popular streamer had been moving through the CBD with members of his team, including his videographer and several supporters, while livestreaming events from the streets.

The situation changed when a plain-clothed officer approached and detained him, with the incident captured live on camera.

Footage from the scene showed confusion breaking out immediately after the arrest, as Vindee’s team and supporters tried to understand what was happening.

His videographer appeared visibly shaken while continuing to record the unfolding events, and viewers watching the livestream reacted strongly, demanding answers over the reason behind the arrest.

The incident quickly gained attention online, with clips from the arrest circulating widely across social media platforms.

Commemorating June 25 Protests

Vindee’s detention happened as thousands of Kenyans gathered across the country to mark the anniversary of the June 2024 anti-government protests.

The demonstrations were held to honour young Kenyans who lost their lives during the protests while renewing calls for justice and accountability.

The June 2024 protests became one of Kenya’s most significant youth-led movements in recent years, sparked by opposition to proposed tax measures and broader concerns about governance.
