Mulamwah Opens Up on Constant Online Backlash and His Ongoing Feud with Obinna

David Oyando, popularly known as Mulamwah, has addressed why he often finds himself at the center of online drama, saying the animosity toward him began from the very start of his career and has never truly let up.

In a candid interview on the Iko Nini podcast on Friday, May 2, 2025, Mulamwah reflected on his rocky start in the entertainment industry, stating that negative reactions have followed him since he posted his first video.

“Mulamwah is someone who started his journey on the wrong foot. People hated me right from the very first video—completely,” he said.

“Even My Child Wasn’t Spared”

He expressed disbelief over the sheer volume and consistency of the online hate, noting that it extends beyond himself to the women he dates—and even to his children. Mulamwah explained that every relationship he’s been in has exposed his partner to unsolicited backlash, and breaking up never ends the hate—it simply carries over to the next phase of his life.

Most recently, the birth of his child with ex-girlfriend Ruth K was met with online trolling after they did a face reveal. He shared that people began mocking the child’s appearance and making baseless comparisons—something he found deeply disturbing, though not entirely unexpected.

“Even when I date someone, the woman starts getting attacked immediately. We reveal the baby’s face, and it’s more hate. Kenyans say they’re showing love, but it’s just insults disguised as attention,” he said.

Despite the overwhelming negativity, Mulamwah said he’s grown to understand the nature of online spaces, where trolling is often mindless and indiscriminate.

“They’ll insult a child, say horrible things… but we’ve learned to accept that. Today it’s me, tomorrow it’s Bahati, then it’s Pozee. These people hurl insults at 50 celebrities a day.”

Calls Out Obinna for Amplifying Hate

While he claimed not to take online comments personally anymore, Mulamwah took aim at fellow comedian Oga Obinna, accusing him of exploiting the trolling for content. He criticized Obinna for discussing hateful comments about his child on his podcast and dismissing it by saying “netizens were the ones saying it.”

“Why are you turning that into content? Then you distance yourself and say, ‘It wasn’t me, I’m just reading what people said.’ You laugh about it like it’s funny—what’s funny about dragging my child into this?” Mulamwah questioned.

He argued that while fans will always talk, public figures like Obinna should be more responsible about what they choose to amplify, especially when it concerns innocent children.

“When you pick what fans are saying and bring it to a platform like that, it just makes the trolling worse. It’s no longer just idle chatter—it becomes a bigger, nastier problem.”

“I’m Tired of Trending”

Mulamwah’s remarks come just weeks after he publicly pleaded for a break from the spotlight. In a Facebook post on April 23, 2025, he wrote:

“Nimechoka kutrend, mtu mwingine ajitokeze sasa, atrend iko bana, eei.”

His frustration followed his Let Me Explain stand-up comedy show at the Kenya National Theatre on April 20, 2025. Ironically, the event reignited online chatter, especially after he admitted in a backstage interview that he hadn’t expected much support.

“I knew there wasn’t much genuine support online. I walked into that show prepared for the worst. Even though I collaborated with others, it was mostly a solo journey—and that made the love I received even more meaningful,” he said.

Still, those comments stirred fresh debate online, with some netizens—particularly on TikTok—questioning why Mulamwah would assume people wouldn’t support him, especially when they often show up for other artists.

Despite the backlash, Mulamwah continues to speak out about his experiences, using humor and honesty to navigate the harsh realities of fame in the digital age.
