Marya Okoth Weds in Colourful Traditional Ceremony Months After Split from Comedian YY
Actress Marya Okoth has turned the page on her past and embraced a new beginning, tying the knot in a vibrant traditional wedding held in Ugenya, Siaya County.
The wedding marks a fresh chapter for Marya, following her highly publicised breakup with comedian YY in September 2024 — a split that surprised many of their fans who had admired the couple’s close bond and co-parenting journey.
From Heartbreak to Healing
Marya’s separation from YY was confirmed by the comedian himself. In the months that followed, YY moved on to a brief relationship with Noela Toywa, which ended in under four months. During this time, Marya remained largely out of the public spotlight — until her wedding news surfaced, capturing widespread attention and support from fans.
The actress married Okula Jack, a senior official in Kenya’s Ministry of Education. News of the wedding was confirmed by David Ochola, a close friend of the groom, who posted congratulatory messages and photos on Facebook.
According to Ochola, the celebrations were held on May 31 and August 3, with both events described as “top-notch.” His message read, “We celebrate you, my brother Okula Jack. Love wins.”
A Ceremony Rich in Culture and Meaning
Photos from the traditional wedding showcased a striking display of cultural heritage. Marya wore a stunning leopard-print dress with a dramatic feathered headpiece, while her groom donned a complementary light beige outfit.
A video clip from the event revealed the couple singing a Seventh-day Adventist hymn in church, confirming that the ceremony included a religious component.
Despite the online buzz, Marya has not publicly commented on her marriage. Her social media activity has remained focused on influencer and promotional content, without any direct mention of the wedding.
Reflecting on Regrets and Resilience
The wedding comes months after Marya shared personal reflections in a candid YouTube video in November 2024, where she addressed questions about regrets, love, and growth.
When asked about her biggest regret, she responded, “I don’t really move with regrets that much. Even the things that didn’t turn out the way I wanted — I treat them as lessons.” She encouraged fans to let go of the past to avoid self-doubt.
Marya also commented on her dating life with humor, saying, “Do I have a boyfriend? Yoh, you guys help me answer!” She added, “Even if I did, I don’t think I’d ever do a public relationship again. But never say never.”
She acknowledged that her happiness often leads fans to assume she’s in love, joking, “You’ll see me glowing and say, ‘She has a boyfriend!’ No guys, I don’t.”
A New Chapter Begins
As Marya embarks on married life with Okula Jack, fans have flooded social media with congratulatory messages, celebrating her journey from heartbreak to healing. For now, she continues to let her actions — and her glow — speak louder than words.
