Watch Cyrus Jirongo’s 3 widows introduce each other to the public

The mourning of former Lugari MP and Cabinet minister Cyrus Jirongo took an emotional turn on Sunday after his three wives were formally introduced to the public for the first time since his sudden death.

The rare moment unfolded at the family’s expansive home in Gigiri, Nairobi, where hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their respects. Standing side by side, the three women received condolences together, offering a public glimpse into the polygamous family structure Jirongo often spoke about openly during his lifetime.

First Public Appearance Since His Death

The introduction was overseen by the funeral steering committee, coordinating burial and transition arrangements for the veteran politician.

The wives were introduced by their first names — Christine, Anne “Mkubwa”, and another Ann — and were presented as the women who shared the life of the influential businessman and political power broker.

Overcome with emotion, the wives thanked mourners for the overwhelming support.

“We are speechless. Thank you all for standing with us,” one of them said.

Another added: “As much as we feel the pain, we are comforted by the love he showed us. Without your support, this would be too heavy.”

The atmosphere at the Gigiri residence remained somber as political leaders, close friends and family members from across the country streamed in to mourn Jirongo, who died in a tragic road accident on December 13, 2025.

His Open Views on Polygamy

Jirongo was never reserved about his personal life. In past interviews and public forums, he openly defended polygamy, describing it as a traditional and civilised way of life.

At the same time, he acknowledged the complexities and emotional toll that can come with such arrangements. Just months before his death, while speaking at a memorial service for his late daughter, Lorraine Jelagat, Jirongo reflected candidly on his first marriage to Caroline.

He famously admitted that his own actions, including what he described as a wandering eye, played a major role in the breakdown of that marriage.

Tragic Final Hours

Jirongo died at around 2am after his Mercedes-Benz was involved in a head-on collision with a Climax Coaches bus along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway near the Karai area.

The family has since called for a detailed investigation into his final movements, raising questions over why he was in Naivasha in the early hours when he was expected to be at home in Nairobi.

Jirongo will be laid to rest on Tuesday, December 30, at his home in Lumakanda, Kakamega County.
