Violent mugger who got Abel Mutua’s iPhone 16 by force arrested

A new development has emerged in the robbery case involving Kenyan filmmaker and content creator Abel Mutua, after a man allegedly linked to the incident reportedly came forward seeking forgiveness.

The individual is said to have admitted involvement in the robbery, during which Mutua was held at knifepoint and robbed of his iPhone 16 Pro Max—an incident that had earlier shocked fans online.

The robbery that stunned fans
The incident occurred in October 2025 in Kahawa West, Nairobi, where Mutua was reportedly ambushed by armed assailants. The attackers are said to have stolen valuables, including his phone and Bose headphones.

Despite the frightening encounter, Mutua later shared that he was not physically harmed—something he expressed deep gratitude for.

“The important thing is that despite the massive knives… they spared my life,” he said at the time.

The robbery took place near the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital morgue, a detail that added to the intensity of the ordeal.

Suspect reportedly confesses
Months after the incident, a man believed to be part of the group has reportedly confessed and is now appealing for forgiveness. Viral posts and circulating reports indicate that he admitted to stealing the phone at knifepoint and expressed regret over his actions.

Some accounts suggest the suspect may have already faced legal consequences, with references to sentencing related to robbery and assault charges.

Legal implications
Under Kenyan law, robbery involving weapons such as knives is classified as robbery with violence—one of the most serious criminal offences. Convictions can attract severe penalties, including lengthy prison terms or even life imprisonment, depending on the case.

Mixed public reaction
The development has sparked divided opinions online. While some Kenyans support the idea of forgiveness and second chances, others insist that the law should be allowed to take its full course.

The incident has also reignited concerns about insecurity in Nairobi estates, particularly in areas like Kahawa West, where similar cases have been reported.

Awaiting response
As news of the suspect’s apology continues to circulate, attention is now turning to whether Abel Mutua will publicly respond to the plea.
