Veteran rapper and storyteller Kennedy Ombima, better known as King Kaka, has shared a harrowing account of a health crisis that nearly claimed his life two to three years ago. Speaking in a deeply personal interview with Oga Obinna on Monday night, April 13, 2026, the “Kaka Empire” CEO detailed the physical and psychological toll of a sickness that left the medical community baffled.

The Frustration of a “Negative” Diagnosis

One of the most agonizing parts of the ordeal, King Kaka revealed, was the lack of a clear diagnosis. As his health deteriorated, every test—from cancer screenings to organ biopsies—returned negative results.

“Everything was negative. I used to get doctors telling me, ‘We’ve come back from grafting and you don’t have cancer,’ and I would get pissed,” he admitted. He explained that his desperation reached a point where he began praying for a positive diagnosis just so doctors would know what to treat. “I just wanted a disease so we could start treating it.”

Bargaining for the End

As his condition worsened, the rapper became so frail that he lost the ability to perform basic tasks. He described a period of extreme physical pain where his bones hurt so much that he couldn’t even sit in a car; he had to be transported while lying on a duvet in the back seat.

“I could not walk, I could not eat, I used to crawl to the washroom,” he recalled. Convinced that his time on earth was over, King Kaka admitted to bargaining with God from his sickbed. “I was like, ‘I know this is my time and I am ready for it.’”

Protecting His Children and Updating His Will

The rapper’s fear of death was coupled with a desire to protect his family. He confessed to misleading his family about the severity of his condition during his final hospital admission because he was terrified his children would see him being carried out of the house in a body bag.

Once admitted, King Kaka took the final step of preparing for his exit. “I knew it was coming, and when I got to the hospital, I called my lawyer and told him we need to update the will,” he stated.

A Miraculous Recovery

Despite the grim outlook, the rapper eventually made a full recovery—an outcome he describes as nothing short of a miracle. He noted that the experience has fundamentally changed his perspective on life and happiness.

“People ask me these days why I am so happy, and I tell them, ‘You guys didn’t know? I bargained to be back here where I am, and I’m healthy,’” he said. Today, King Kaka stands as a testament to resilience, using his second chance at life to continue his storytelling legacy in the Kenyan creative industry.
